Grateful to be a Mom . . .

especially today.  I woke up with a grateful heart and just thought I would share some of my thoughts.  I'm soo grateful to be a mom in this day and age.  We seem to have soo many more conveniences than moms did 15 years or more ago.  The things that came to my mind are:

-kitchen appliances.  It is so nice to have a microwave for when I need something to be warm right NOW.  Also, slow cookers that are programmable, it's not a need, but it's definitely handy.  My kitchenaid mixer.  I bet pioneer women would have loved to have one of those. And my bread maker for when I'm to lazy to use my mixer for dough. :-)

-sewing machine.  It does soo much more than sewing machines did ten years ago, and is soo fun to use.  Fabric is way cuter as well.  And what about long arm quilting machines?  I bet those pioneer women would have loved those too.  They could'a whipped out all those homemade quilts in a day or so.

-baby equipment. There has been soo many advances in this area it's hard to know where to even start.  But the big one that comes to mind is disposable diapers.  Even those are cooler than they were a few years ago with the little stripe that changes color when it's wet.  I'm soo grateful I don't have to deal with cloth diapers.

-breastfeeding.  It is still what it was ages ago, but how nice is it that I have an awesome breast pump for when I need a break from my baby piranha? Also, how nice are those absorbable nursing pads and my nursing cover.  Breastfeeding, while still being what it used to be has made some great advances as well.

-the biggest thing I am grateful for is the INTERNET!  How nice it is when I need a "mental health break" that I can turn on the computer, go to facebook and see that there are other moms on the computer for the exact same reasons.  We are all going through the exact same things with our kids.  It's soo nice to be able to connect with other moms without having to leave our homes.  Blogs are soo nice to see what friends and family are up to that live far away.  It's soo fun to see pictures of other peoples kids and hear their triumphs and trials.  Email is the best thing ever! It's nice that I can send my mom or Justin an email, and then when it's convenient for them they can email me back.  There are soo many awesome websites that I feel like they enrich my life soo much and make being the mommy soo much easier.  There is soo much good information out there on the 'net that can help us be better homemakers.  Like WebMD, and allrecipes.com and on and on and on.

-the gospel.  I'm so grateful we have a living prophet of God on the earth today to lead us and guide us through these scary times.  It's so nice that I can pray for guidance and then receive an answer to my prayers.  What a blessing it is!

I just feel so grateful to be a mom today.  We have soo many modern conveniences that make our life easier and for that I am truly grateful!

I agree, life today is SO much easier than our parents had it. I wonder what our kids are going to think about our way of life when they're parents??

Wonderful post! I nursed all my babies (and until 15 months) so I know where you're coming from with the breastfeeding. Also, I live out in the country, surrounded by my kids and cows. The Internet is my life line. LOL
